Antimachia is a small town on the island of Kos. This name is associated here mainly with the airport located on the edge of the city and the castle, dating from the fourteenth century. Tourists are coming here to admire the impressive view of Kardamena and the Aegean Sea from the walls of the mentioned castle. In the courtyard there are two small churches – Agios Nicolaos (XVI c.) And Agia Paraskevi (XVIII). In the second one there are icons depicting the life of the saint on the walls. On July 26, there is an indulgence in honor of the patron. On this day the courtyard of the castle is filled with the faithful from the whole island.
According to tourist guides, the castle served Sovereign Military Order of Maltaas as a prison for knights refusing to obey and violating universally accepted rules. During the Ottoman rule, the building was constantly strengthened. However, after 1522, the castle began to fall into ruin. If you decide to visit the ruins of the castle, an exceptional guard will greet you at the gates. There is no mandatory price list for admission. However, tourists leave a symbolic sum for people caring for the ruins of the castle.
